Meet Rajia, Girl Boss Founder
Tell us about your invention/product? What problem does it solve?
? At invisaWear, we create jewelry and accessories that double as safety devices! When the button on the backside of the charm is double-clicked, an SOS will be sent to your loved ones, and optionally 9-1-1 with the user’s GPS location. We are also now backed by ADT the #1 name in home security in the US.
? What was the inspiration for your invention/product?
? One night after an event with Ray, I was walking back to my car when a car full of guys rolled down the window and started yelling inappropriate comments, the car stopped and one of the guys started to get out. Luckily, I was able to run to my car, unharmed. Unfortunately, many other women can’t say the same.
After exploring safety devices that provide S.O.S solutions, Ray and I felt defeated. The current options were too big and bulky, or displayed a “panic button” feeling. We wanted a stylish, discreet S.O.S device, ideal for everyday wear. Thus, invisaWear was born!
? What is the number one goal you have with regards to your invention/product? ? Our number one goal is to allow people to protect themselves and the people they love. We believe everyone deserves to feel safe and have peace of mind.
? Who is your product for (target market)?
? invisaWear is for anyone who wants peace of mind. Our target market is especially middle aged women who want to purchase for their parents and children.
? How long did your invention/product take to get to this point (from the time you conceived of the idea to now)?
? We spent two years in product development, and have been on the market for 3 years!
? When you had your idea, what was the first thing you did?
? The first thing we did was talk to thousands of consumers to validate that they also
faced the same problem (worried about their safety) and that they would want to wear jewelry that has a safety device hidden inside!
? What has been the greatest challenge getting your idea from your head to something tangible?
? Raising funding was one of our biggest initial challenges! When I started the company I was only 21 years old, trying to convince investors to give you hundreds of thousands of dollars at such a young age was not easy.
? How did or are you funding the development of your invention/product?
? We were fortunate enough to raise enough capital to bring our product to market. We raised money from some Angel investors who share our same mission of keep women safe!
? How do you currently market your invention/product?
? We currently market invisaWear on multiple platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TV ads, radio ads, podcasts etc.
? Tell us about your background?
? Double majored in electrical engineering and computer science at UMass Lowell. Turned down a figure salary from Google to work on invisaWear.
? Who are your favorite female creators and why?
? Hudda Kattan is one of my favorite creators! Hearing how she took loans from her loved ones to start her business and how now she turned it into a Billion dollar empire is so inspiring!!
? What’s been the most surprising part of your creative journey so far?
? The most surprising thing has been the overwhelming positive support we’ve received. It’s been so incredible to see women being so supportive of our mission and doing so much to help us spread the word.
? What is a typical day like for you?
? Each and every day is completely different for me! That’s the beauty of being an entrepreneur. Each week I have meetings with our Marketing team, our Sales team, our digital advertising team, our press agency, our developers, our engineering team, but each day itself is different!
? Who have been your role models, mentors, etc?
? One of my biggest role models is one of our investors! He is an immigrant self-made entrepreneur. Despite all the challenges he’s faced in his life he’s become so successful. Instead of retiring and moving to an island somewhere nice, he dedicates his time and money to helping others. I can only hope to one day be as philanthropic as he is!
? Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?
? Always follow your dreams! So many people will tell you all the reasons you could fail but you need to focus on what could happen if you succeed!!
? What’s the best way for the readers/audience of Inventing Women to connect with you (feel free to include the links to your social networks and websites)?
