<p>In 1912, S.I. Russell invented and patented an electric heating pad for patients who had tuberculosis. The electric heating pad mad of a small square of fabric with insulated heating coils was designed to help them breathe and keep their chests warm. Amazingly the heating pad sold for $150 which was really pricey for the time. In the 1930’s due to popular demand and lower manufacturing costs, the first electric blanket came to market.</p>
<p>Today you can find electric blankets  in most department stores and online with a variety of features and options, making them a desirable addition to a cold winter night.</p>
